Is there a way to change the default screen saver image to a custom image on the elegoo mars?

as i know, it's not possible on the easy way. The firmware of the newer machines is not distributed by Elegoo, but you can try by asking the Elegoo support

On the topic of firmware, is there any good alternatives that are more customizable? Is it like FDM where you can use your own customized version of marlin?

the firmwares of the Chitu-boards are not like Marlin. you can find the mainboard also in other SLA-printers, like the Anycubics,
but always "custom-" or "factory-made". the only infos about the firmware i found, was the "Photonsters" on github
