USB drive died - Reformatted to no avail, do I need the G code?

Hi all, the USB that came with the printer corrupted.

I reformatted it to FAT32 after reading some other posts but now nothing shows up when I plug the stick in.

Do I need the gcode to be able to see the files?

Yes, after I posted this I ended up trying another one (formatted to FAT32). It worked, I was surprised because the stick is fairly "large" at 128Gb. I did not partition it.
