Advice needed for printing small pieces for Bolt Action wargame via Elegoo Mars Pro
#1
I require some advice regarding printing out small pieces for Bolt Action miniatures game.

I accidently snapped off all the TIPS of the gun barrels of my miniature Bolt Action U.S. Half-Track .50 cal Browning machine guns when doing some alteration and I wanted to simply print out some similar machine guns, scale them down and print them out on my Elegoo Pro Mars. Note that this is my 2nd print attempt ever (rooks were first months ago) but I am frustrated so please advise as it was a botched job. I provide results photos and all the settings on CHITUBOX via the links if you’re interested. I’ve learned my lesson to only do one print and get it right before I attempt 15, that’s for sure but please read on. ..

So from the 4 photos directly below you can see the green original Bolt Action .50 cal in green (with the tip of the barrel snapped off) and the build plate with no less than 15 botched .50 cal machine guns print attempts on the same build plate and off the build plate. Note that I got the width of the machine gun wrong (it was too thin) but I got the attempted length ok despite none of the prints printing the full length of the barrel (all failed despite supports). Also I selected a .50 cal browning STL model off the web with no ammo side box which was a mistake but regardless, it was a botch, the body of the gun lacked detail, no indents where the holes on the barrel should be in the source STL etc this lack of detail occurred even when I selected 0.01mm height on the Chitubox layer settings.T he original STL was from free3D website, if you look up “50 Cal. Browning 3D Model”.
Photos of the Elegoo Mars Pro print results off plate on on build plate with the broken original .50 cal in green (tile should have read ‘no fun attempt instead though):

Now regarding the settings on CHITUBox, I show them in the photos below, note that I did select ‘Elegoo Mars Pro’ as the machine and hit the ‘ALL’ button with the supports and made sure that the the Bottom and Normal Exposure settings were respectively set to 60S and 8S as per the “Standard Photopolymer grey Resin’ bottle (405nm), I even gave the bottle a shake. I even tilted the miniature on CHITUBOX to try and get more supports underneath it. But alas no good. If you spot anything wrong in my settings please mention it. Obviously I will have to add more supports manually to the tip of the barrel as that was an island which I missed but I thought the automated CHITUBOX supports algorithm would spot it easily.

Is there any other way I can get more detail on the miniature besides selecting ‘Anti-aliasing’ on the advanced menu and ‘0.01mm on the Layer height settings ? also am I selecting the ‘Bottom and ‘Raft’ structures correctly ? should they be thinner or thicker, should they have a cone or a spherical tip ? Also the ‘Pring Settings’: ‘Bottom Lift distance’ and ‘Lifting Distance’, what are they and how do they affect the Supports lift distance ? I am totally lost.

Here are the photos of the CHITUBOX SUPPORT settings:

So that’s it. Not sure how to fix this problem either with the main settings, supports or the orientation of the miniature (besides adding a few more supports manually and increasing the width of the machine gun mesh slightly to make it bigger) but overall a total disaster. Any help and advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. I cannot find the spares on ebay that I need hence why I tried this.

Also I have been hunting around the web for advice and I found the ‘Complete and utter idiots guide to 3d printing in resin for wargamers’ web page and he does have some tips on support settings in CHITUBOX for smaller miniatures but I think these are more for the fully sized Warhammer 28mm sized type minis not for small thin machine guns for Warhammer, I’ll post a photo of his settings for supports below and see what you think, I just dunno whether or not it will work with what I want:
