Having trouble printing miniature bases

I'm having trouble printing a miniature base on my Mars 2 Pro.  The base is around 50mm in diameter and has some features on the bottom (so I can't just print it flat on the plate).  I first tried printing it flat with supports underneith. This almost worked, but supports failed one side of the base. I then made 2 attempts printing it rotated ~45deg with various amount of supports and both times the supports failed early on and the base detached from them.  I haven't tried printing with 90deg rotation yet.
I wanted to know how people are dealing with printing bases and what has worked best for you.
