Stepper Skipping Steps When Lowering

So I've been doing fine with my Mars for a few months, but suddenly I've started having an issue wherein the carriage is skipping steps about 60mm above the build plate. It does this all the way down, and it has rendered the printer useless as it also skips steps while printing. I've re-leveled the bed with no success. Could the stepper itself be biting the dust?

It would appear to me that he trolley needs lubrication and/or adjustment. There is a YouTube video (found it here) with pretty good instructions, my only comment is that were i doing it I would not make the trolley adjustment so loose that it fell under it's own weight--for best accuracy it should move freely, but with a bit of "preload" resistance.
