Buy a SLA (resin) printer and use the "engineering" resins like Siraya Tech's Tenacious and Weistek's Toughness. I have used both with great success for functional parts (I do not do "dolls" either)"

The resin printers are capable of much finer resolution, but the cheap ($30/kilogram) "ABS-like" resins are very brittle--I use various blends of the "ABS" crap and the good stuff.
